Dr. Bill Adams has been practicing medicine for 5 years. He went to
college at Harvard in Cambridge, MA, and medical school at Columbia
College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, NY. Dr. Adams trained
at Boston Children's Hospital and now spends his time at Boston Medical
Center seeing patients and doing research on epidemics.Originally from
Hamilton, MA, Dr. Adams now lives in Jamaica Plain with his wife and
enjoys skiing, hiking, woodworking, choral singing, and spending time
with his family.
Dr. Adams' research interests have focused on improving health outcomes in primary care pediatric populations using computers and medical informatics. He has used a large clinical database to link underimm unization with iron deficiency and lead toxicity, to evaluate screening practices in the BMC pediatric ambulatory care center, and has designed and implemented a computer-based pediatric patient record which is currently being evaluated. Recently, with implementation of an on-line nurse-based immunization entry system, he has been able to demonstrate that the use of computers at the point of service is practical, acceptable, timesaving, and dramatically improves data quality. In the coming year, we will evaluate changes in parent and provider knowledge, attitude, and practice following computer supported clinical encounters.
